For over 50 years AFS has sponsored a Homestead Variety Show. AFS is a premier high school exchange program begun at end of WWII by volunteer ambulance drivers called American Field Service (AFS). The Mission of AFS-USA is to “work toward a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership.”
AFS, a worldwide, nonprofit organization, has been leading international high school student exchange for more than 65 years and has been active at Homestead High School for over 50 years. This year Mequon welcomes four AFS exchange students and one Rotary exchange student with Homestead High School’s annual AFS Variety Show. Mathilde Jensen is our Rotary student from Denmark and the AFS students are Claudia Osses from Spain, Noora Väänänen from Finland, Mehzabin Irin Chowdhury from Bangladesh, and Giorgia Dal Molin from Italy. Each of these young ladies are amazing high school ambassadors from their countries and have a fun dance prepared for the AFS Variety Show audiences.
This year, the show is in the BRAND NEW James Barr Performing Arts Center at Homestead High School. Come see the singing, dancing and acting talent of HHS students and meet the exchange student. There are two different shows Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5th at 7 pm.
If you see any of these ladies around, I highly suggest you strike up a conversation, they are so funny and it’s wonderful learning about their homes and different cultures. I know Acting 1 3rd hour wouldn’t be the same without Mathilda and Noora talking about the difference in American High Schools and Scandinavian High Schools.
