Meet the Artist: Greer Patten

Who are you?  What year are you?  What are your interests?
My name is Greer Patten and I am a senior. Outside of theater, I am Assistant Editor of Highlander Publications, in Younglife, and love playing guitar and ukulele.

What exactly do you do for Oklahoma!?
I am Skidmore’s daughter, Dream Laurey, and a featured dancer, as well as a couple understudies(I like to stay busy in these shows).

Why did you join Oklahoma!?
I have done theater since third grade and have been in ten productions at Homestead. I also used to be a dancer, so being a featured dancer and Dream Laurey in this show has been an absolute joy.

Tell us a story from rehearsal, pit practice, or crew session.
Any time that Addison, Anaya, and I(the Skidmore family) are together in a scene we have so much fun. For one, Addison always seems to play my mother/mother-figure in shows, so we’ve basically mastered that relationship. We spent a solid week deciding what the daughters’ names would be, and after much deliberation, we chose Lottie and Nina. Another fun time was when we were choreographing the ballet section that is just Emme(Dream Curly) and I. We were in the choir room for about two hours, then had to move to the PAC Lobby because of a choir parent board meeting. Now, while we were rehearsing in front of the giant windows of the PAC lobby, a wrestling meet was going on, so at least fifty people got a preview of the show in that hour.

What is Oklahoma! about? Why should people come to see it?
Oklahoma! is about finding your people and working together to reach a common goal. This show is super lively and energetic but also has a lot of tender moments. You never know what is going to happen next, and there might even be a 14-minute-long ballet.

What do you hope the audience will think about in the car as they drive home after this show?
I hope they will just be super happy and energized. This show is really happy and fun, and so I hope that will allow our audience to immerse themselves fully in the story. I also hope they can see themselves and their relationships with other people in the story. There are so many real friendships and familial relationships that people can see themselves in.

Anything else you want to talk about?
This show with this specific group of people is just so special. We have a ton of fun and it is unlike any show we have done before. COME SEE OKLAHOMA!
