Who are you? What year are you? What are your interests?
Hi, my name is Ryan Kramer and I am a senior in the Homestead Drama Department. I love singing, drawing, hanging out with friends, and doing meaningless goofy things for the sake of making life interesting.
What exactly do you do for Oklahoma!?
I play Curly McLain, an arrogant but well-meaning ranch hand who has his heart set on Laurey Williams- neither of whom will ever admit outright that they like each other.
Why did you join Oklahoma!?
I’ve been singing for the past seven years. Theatre has been such a major part of my life for the last two, I felt it was a no-brainer to come back for my second and final Homestead musical before I graduate – and that was absolutely the right choice.
Tell us a story from rehearsal, pit practice, or crew session.
One rehearsal we were learning a dance number for the song “The Farmer and the Cowman”, we were learning this sequence where we do a square dancing portion. I, for reference, am not an experienced dancer. During the learning process for the dance, I was having some trouble getting the moves down, but my friends were there to help me gain the confidence to keep at it. Safe to say it really worked out, and now I really enjoy dancing- even if I’m still a beginner.
What is Oklahoma! about? Why should people come to see it?
Oklahoma! Is a tale about the lives of settlers in the Oklahoma territory and meshes in romantic comedy with intense moments and action- all with an amazing score from Rodgers and Hammerstein. With its colorful characters and catchy tunes, and Oklahoma! Is guaranteed to make any audience fall in love with it.
What do you hope the audience will think about in the car as they drive home after this show?
I personally hope they have ‘The Surrey With the Fringe On Top’ stuck in their head, but virtually any tune from Oklahoma! Is gold so I wouldn’t be too miffed if their head was playing ‘Kansas City’ or ‘It’s a Scandal, It’s a Outrage!’
