Meet the Artist: Emme Buesing

Hi! My name is Emme Buesing and I’m a senior! Outside of theater I love to dance, sing, and hang out with my friends and family.

This is my first year in one act and I am so glad I auditioned. Since freshman year I have taken all of Figg’s acting classes. My brother Grayson, has been doing One Act since he was a sophomore and it always intrigued me. He’d say how fun the competitions were and how many new people you get to meet. One thing he said that really drew me in was when he said this class really pushes you into being the best version of yourself. Though it may be hard, and makes you question everything, in the end it’s all worth it.

Being in this class for over a month it is very close to what I thought it would be. Having the chance to experiment with different plays, people and even devising a piece. The one thing I did not expect however is getting a cast list two weeks before our first competition! This was a shock to me but we have so many talented people in our cast who are more than capable of knowing their lines and making this show the best it can be.

In One Act I do many things, for example, acting, choreographing, dancing, and my favorite playing connections with Heidi and Buck!!! Figg has given me the amazing opportunity to choreograph some pieces for our production. A hip-hop piece for the friends scene, different movements for Everyman, and the dance between Everyman and Good Deeds!

Everyman is a morality play, throughout the story Everyman journeys to the different aspects of their life, discovering all the rights and wrongs they’ve done. They learn that the choices they’ve made have really affected the people in their life and grows to be a better person. I have helped create this piece by choreographing multiple dances and movement pieces throughout the play.

I get injured a lot, especially in One Act! My favorite story happened in rehearsal. We were in the journey and in this part of the play, we went off stage facing backward (already a bad idea). As I was walking back I fully tripped over our rolling frames. When I went off stage I cut up my ankle and found out it was strained. However, I kept going because no pain no gain. Though this may not be funny to some people it’s hilarious because exactly a year ago that day (Oct. 22) I hurt my ankle the same way! Tripping over something backward, I thought it was ironic that I hurt myself the same way on the same day!

What’s different this year about the One Act class?
This year we chose to devise our piece and really make it our own. We rewrote the whole thing, and added a ton of movement into it. Though it was difficult I am so happy we chose to devise the piece as it fell perfectly and I don’t believe we could have selected a better play.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.
A random fact about me is I have 11 chickens!
