Meet the Artist: Erich Hartmann

I’m Erich, a senior in the Homestead drama department. I really enjoy acting (oh shock! Oh horror!), reading, writing, and playing pretty much any kind of game I can! For this show, I’m only an ensemble member, but I’m also understudying for Samuel. I’m one of our basses, meaning I switch from Pirate to Police after intermission.

I’ve been an actor in all the shows since I started high school, and I don’t plan to stop now, especially not with the most interesting musical yet, The Pirates of Penzance!

What is one story you can tell from rehearsals, pit practices, or crew sessions?
Less so a story, and more an experience, but there is truly nothing like sharing cold rotisserie chicken with some friends while you’re sitting off-stage. It’s less depressing than it sounds I swear.

If you know the show, what’s your favorite part?  A scene, a song, anything.  Why is it your favorite?
I’m not in it, but I really love “Catlike Tread.” It’s just a really fun song to listen to and watch.

What do you hope the audience will be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?
Mostly that they had a good time and felt impressed! Pirates is a funny show, so as long as people feel like it was done well and enjoyed themselves, then we’ve met the mark on our performance!

Anything else you want to talk about?
Like seriously the rotisserie thing wasn’t actually that bad. Like we had to pull it apart with our hands but it was actually kinda nice! The sense of community is actually pretty unique just let me explain where are you going.

Come see The Pirates of Penzance February 13-16 at Homestead High School.
