My name is Owen Gudex! I am a Senior at Homestead and I take an interest in everything related to the arts! Some of my interests include literally everything relating to the arts, and I mean EVERYTHING! I am going to college this year with the intention of pursuing a career in screen-scoring for film, television and so much more!
I’m so glad you decided to tell people about yourself and the current Homestead production. What exactly do you do for The Pirates of Penzance?
I am an actor in the show! I play the part of Samuel (woot woot!)
What brought you to join the cast, pit, crew for The Pirates of Penzance?
The community has been a huge support in my theatre journey, but the biggest thing that drew me to acting in this show is my sister. She’s a freshman acting in this show, and I haven’t had the opportunity to act with her since acting through the Rec. Department as a middle schooler. This is the only chance I have to act with her one last time. Getting to show my sister and the other new actors the ropes has been a blessing.
What is one story you can tell from rehearsals, pit practices, or crew sessions?
The first time we rehearsed the overture was a whole lot of fun! Lots of comedic moments arose from utilizing a specific set piece (I won’t spoil it, you’ll just have to come and see the show!)
If you know the show, what’s your favorite part? A scene, a song, anything. Why is it your favorite?
I Am The Very Model is my favorite song in The Pirates of Penzance. Jay Hall does such a good job playing the comedic Major General. His mannerisms make me laugh every time we work on the song (which is something I need to work on before opening night.) He truly is the very model of a modern major general.
What do you hope the audience will be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?
The incredible range that these performers have! We went from The Crucible to The Pirates of Penzance, two VERY different genres of shows.
Anything else you want to talk about?
Come see The Pirates of Penzance on Feb. 14 – 16th (7:00pm) and/or Feb. 17th (1:00pm)!
