Meet the Artist: Addison Drumm

My name is Addison Drumm, I am a Junior, and I love Latin, music, nature, photography, and sleeping. In “The Pirates of Penzance,” I play Kate Stanley, one of General Stanley’s many daughters. I have done all the musicals since my freshman year and I love HHS theatre. This show is such a hilarious story and it is such a different show from what we have usually done.

What is one story you can tell from rehearsals, pit practices, or crew sessions?
When the daughters were blocking “Climbing Over Rocky Mountain,” we had gotten some of our props for the first time. I was in a group with Sayla and Rachel, and we had a picnic basket. Rachel was the one who carried and unpacked the basket. A little backstory: Rachel hates cheese. Like she doesn’t even want it near her. But guess what food was in our basket?? Cheese!! Since then, crew has added more cheese to our basket, and now Rachel has a cheese hat and two wedges of Wisconsin cheese in her basket.

If you know the show, what’s your favorite part?  A scene, a song, anything.  Why is it your favorite?
My favorite song is “When the Foeman Bares His Steel” because it is such a banger. The harmonies and “tarantara’s” from the police really add so many layers to that part of the story.

What do you hope the audience will be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?
I hope they are shocked that they just watched a high school show. This show is very musically challenging, but we have such talented singers. As difficult as it is, it is hilarious. I hope the audience thoroughly enjoys the humor and continues to think about it.

Come see the Pirates of Penzance!!
