Hi! My name is Jake Varney, I am a Senior at HHS and I am planning on continuing my acting career in college while focusing on other interests too.
I’m so glad you decided to tell people about yourself and the current Homestead production. What exactly do you do for The Pirates of Penzance?
I am an actor, more specifically a pirate and police officer, in the show and have the sacred job of bringing the Pirates to the bar.
What brought you to join the cast, pit, crew for The Pirates of Penzance?
I wanted to join the cast because I wanted to try my hand at getting larger roles for musicals; however, I received the role of ensemble, but that is okay as it helps me be a more distinctive smaller role that can get a better reaction from the audience.
What is one story you can tell from rehearsals, pit practices, or crew sessions?
Something I can tell you is from the musical lock-in. We were all playing Monopoly when I decided to lie down for a second. I passed out on the ground. Good news, I won!
If you know the show, what’s your favorite part? A scene, a song, anything. Why is it your favorite? My favorite scene is when the Pirate King and Ruth approach Frederic and tell him that he’s actually five years old and not 21. It’s hilarious!
What do you hope the audience will be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?My hope is that people will leave the Theatre very confused. Very, Very, Confused
