Greetings! I am Sofia Anton, and I am a (scary) sophomore. I enjoy cheese, romcoms, classic novels, writing, history, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, and of course, singing and acting. For our musical this year we are doing Disney’s Frozen, and I act as Young Anna, the Hidden Child, and an ensemble woman.
What brought you to join the cast, pit, crew for Frozen?
When one has a chance to make one’s childhood dream of becoming a Disney princess come true, one has no choice but to take it.
What is one story you can tell from rehearsals, pit practices, or crew sessions?
In one scene as Young Anna, I have to do a quick change onstage by taking off a green dress to reveal a nightgown underneath. We eventually realized this was not feasible until the dress was further altered. In one of the first runs with costumes, I got stuck in my two dresses and had to ad-lib feverishly until I could get unstuck, all of which Figg got on video. She sent it to our costume head, Lisa, who told me the next day that she could not stop laughing. (Fine, it was pretty funny.)
If you know the show, what’s your favorite part? A scene, a song, anything. Why is it your favorite?
I find this question insufficient–I have so many favorites! One that has stuck out to me from the very start, though, is Fixer Upper. The vivacious yet oblivious Hidden Folk are, in my opinion, the sort of people one should surround oneself with: kind, loving, and enthusiastic beyond belief. One of the many lessons theater has taught me is that it is important to find the little joys to get excited about; a lot of the time, those are the ones that will last.
What do you hope the audience will be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?
I hope everyone in the audience is prepared to have themselves and/or their children singing all the songs incessantly for the next calendar year. You know how people are saying 2026 is the new 2016? After Frozen, 2026 will be the new 2013.
Anything else you want to talk about?
Turtles can breathe through their butts.
