Thoughts on Acting 2

By: Claudia Florsheim (’24)

I  never really considered myself someone who would enjoy an acting class but now this is my second year taking an acting class and I have to say it has taught me a lot of things, such as getting over my fear of speaking publicly without feeling embarrassed. And I know this sounds basic, but I love being myself without caring what others think of me because when you’re in the Black Box. Nobody’s judging you because eventually, everyone’s going to have to do something embarrassing so why would you make fun of someone when you will be next in that position?

At the beginning of the trimester, we got to pick a couple different scenes from random scripts and chose who we think would perform that scene the best. I honestly wasn’t expecting that to be fun but I really enjoyed that. That sense of being in control of who does what and when they do it is really fun for me for some reason. I also developed blocking skills that I never would have developed if I didn’t take this class which I think is really cool. But overall I thought this unit was super fun because you also got to understand other people and get closer to the people in the class.

Then we did a project about occupations in the theater. I didn’t realize how many parts there actually are. I genuinely thought it was super basic with a director and actors but in reality, there’s a lot more that goes into it than just those things. but looking back at it I never realized how hard it is to put a play together until our Acting Two class put a play together.

We are currently doing “The Princess Bride.” At first, I was kind of upset that we were doing this play instead of Mean Girls because I thought Mean Girls would be fun and funny. But I’m honestly enjoying working with everyone and making this play

Come Along.

I think Anaya is doing an amazing job directing and I think everyone is doing an amazing job participating and doing their parts.

In conclusion, I’m really happy with my decision to take this class again. And I think I would encourage people in acting to take this class because I think they would really enjoy it.
