Meet the Artist: El Sullivan

Who are you?  What year are you?  What are your interests?
You can call me El, I’m in my tenth year of kindergarten and I like to finger paint and draw.

What exactly do you do for Oklahoma!?
I try to keep Mr. O at peace with my *amazing* fiddle playing.

Why did you join Oklahoma!?
Last year I got socks for helping in all three shows. I want more socks.

Tell us a story from rehearsal, pit practice, or crew session.
I spilled sparkling water on the floor in the pit that looked like Argentina. Then I asked Mr. O for three tissues and he laughed at me.

What is Oklahoma! about? Why should people come to see it?
I have no idea. I know it’s a love story with a bad guy that I think dies at the end? Then there’s a really REALLY long song in act one that’s just a summary of the whole thing. It’s really annoying to play. You should come see it because I didn’t spend all my free time in a dark pit for no one to come. Also it’s really interesting I guess.

What do you hope the audience will think about in the car as they drive home after this show?
I hope people will think, “Wow, that one violin I could barely hear was so good! However did she get so amazing? She was much better than the first violins. Wow!”

Anything else you want to talk about?
Great moments are born from great opportunity.
And that’s what you have here tonight, boys.
That’s what you’ve earned here, tonight. One game.
If we played ’em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight.
Tonight, we skate with ’em.
Tonight, we stay with ’em, and we shut them down because we can!
Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.
You were born to be hockey players — every one of ya.
And you were meant to be here tonight.
This is your time.
Their time — is done. It’s over.
I’m sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw ’em!
This is your time!!
Now go out there and take it!
