The Director’s Assistant for “The Mikado”

I am the director’s assistant, not an assistant director. It’s a lot of fun, and some of my most treasured memories will come from this job. My favorite part of rehearsals would be giving out the “love letters,” which are letters from Seniors to the members of the cast.  My first experience to theatre was my brother Max Ginkel, who loved to act.  In the summer between my sixth and seventh grade, I joined First Stage Children’s’ Theatre, which is an amazing group for students to make friends, gain confidence and learn amazing acting techniques. It’s is an incredible performing arts program that has helped me so much. My brother, Max has made a big impact on my life because without him, I would have never joined Drama Club and met so many incredible people. I joined Drama Club my sophomore year. My first play was 13 past Midnight my 6th grade year, I was cast as Peter Griffin. It was the most fun I ever had, because I felt important and someone new. I love that feeling, of bringing a character’s truth to a blank canvas. I love the feeling when you find your character, and soon the blank canvas transforms into a beautiful painting, inspiring many.

So many people in Drama Club have inspired me and filled me up with happy moments, that to name them all would be a waste. Stage crew has been so fundamental in my growth and I love everyone from build crew to paint crew to props.

Personally, I’m the most important person in my life. This isn’t in a negatively narcissistic or an egotistical way, but I am honestly the most important to me.  Why shouldn’t I be? This past summer I realized this and find a lot of my inspiration through myself and who I have become.  An eager reader, I also am an avid learner. I love learning new things and experiencing new moments. One of my biggest interests is fairytales. I love reading about the eternal quest for true love and happy endings. I love the little moments when fairytale magic appears in our lives. My second biggest interest is science and biology.  Involved with Latin club, Book club, and Pursuit club, I am a founder in the reactivation of HHS’s GSA (Gay Straight Alliance).

For my future, I want to graduate from either Edgewood college, or Ripon college.  Majoring in Biology, I would love to specialize in Evolution of Diseases and Genetics. It would be wonderful to also minor in either Literature or Theatre Eduction.
