Meet the Artist: Nadia Haswell

Who are you?  What year are you?  What are your interests?

My name is Nadia Haswell, I am a freshman, and I like to cook! (and act… of course)

What exactly do you do for Antigone?

I am a part of the chorus as the Office Intern.

What brought you to join the cast for Antigone??

I’ve always loved theatre as a kid and after Hello Dolly I decided that theatre was my place.

Do you have any stories from rehearsals?

I think my favorite part of this show was seeing the chorus slowly develop their stories and going from being a 19-year-old intern to being the daughter of a bodyguard, illiterate due to being locked in a barrel at birth, traumatized from Creon, and having 13 dead siblings. Oh and 3 cats and a duck.

Antigone is a story about standing up for what you believe in and the conflict between family values and the values of the State.  How have you connected to the story?

Throughout Antigone, I have really connected with the chorus. Even though they don’t have much of a place to speak up when they see inequality they stand up to Creon and argue for what they believe in.

What’s one thing that is different in this play or rehearsal process than anything else we’ve done in the Homestead Theatre Department?

I think that this new take on our pre-show announcement really fits with the show, as well as our decision to continue acting during intermission.

Anything else you want to talk about?

Come see Antigone!!
