Sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone to make magic happen.  Today I left my comfort zone….

Human beings make life so interesting. Do you know, that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to invent boredom?

Open your eyes and then open your eyes again.

Everything starts somewhere, though many physicists disagree. But people have always been dimly aware of the problem with the start of things. They wonder how the snowplough driver gets to work, or how the makers of dictionaries look up the spelling of words.  And so, how does a writer create words?  And so on….

Most of the time this happens with an open mind.  The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.  In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can. Of course, I could be wrong, we all could be.

Humans need… fantasies to be human.  To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.  As practice you have to start out learning to believe the little lies, the ones our parents tell us as a child.

Just so you can believe the big ones. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

Take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder and sieve it through the finest sieve and then show me on atom of justice, one molecule of mercy.  But people have got to believe that, or what’s the point

You need to believe in things that aren’t true. How else can they become? Imagination, not intelligence, made us human.   Once you gave a thing a name, you gave it life.  The fiery ball of gas in the sky is alive as the sun and death is normally a skeleton wearing a robe.  It is not intelligence that gets us to the first of things, it’s imagination; Shakespeare used 17,677 words: Of those words, Shakespeare invented an incredible 1,700 of them.

Dawn, moonbeam, shooting star: things came alive because of one man.  It is now our time to use our imagination, to allow that instant between awake and dreaming to set us aflame, to live and to wake up.  The secret is not to dream the secret is to wake up. Waking up is harder. I have woken up and I am real. I know where I come from and I know where I’m going. You cannot fool me any more. Or touch me. Or anything that is mine, and what is most mine is my mind, that thing that holds the dreamer, the inspiration, the vision.

People want the world to be a story, because stories have to sound right and they have to make sense. People want the world to make sense.  But, sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone to make magic happen. Today I left my comfort zone….

Today I realized it’s ok not to know what to do, not to have a plan, it’s ok to let your imagination take over and create the plan.  What’s my plan?  To wait…. let it come to me… let me look into it’s eyes and whisper hello.

A student yesterday told me “Don’t over think.”  I over thought, all night long.  But upon finally sleeping and not dreaming of a Midsummer concept for the first time in a month, I finally opened my eyes and took the jump.  I left my comfort zone and am feeling pretty fantastic about it.  It’s time I let you kids create.

Keep your vocabulary as wide as you can. I have some difficulty with the word ‘cool’, and I’m not too bothered about the word ‘awesome’. People like me are looking to people like you guys of the next generation to deal with this. It’s like seeing a rock guitarist pick up a Fender Stratocaster and hold it the wrong way.  So don’t.

The universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. There is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.

But

Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one
