Meet the Artist: Reem Salah

4G7A8908Who do you play?
I play Cardinal Richelieu, who is the main villain in the story. He seems cunning and ruthless but is also just a big child.

What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?
I find the script really awkward at times because some lines seem out of place and unnecessary. The hardest part for me is figuring out the comedic timing in lines, when to pause, what words to exaggerate etc.I have a hard time telling if a line is supposed to be comedic or serious, so I try to combine the two as much as possible and change up my interpretation of lines to keep it interesting.

What will the audience be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?
Wow I can’t believe they let the girl with the face of a 5 year old play a 40 year old villain.

How is this production bringing something new to this story?
GIANT CHESS SET, THANK YOU TECH THEATRE!

Who in the show is most like their character?
Sometimes I wonder if David is playing the King or if the King is playing David.

If you could play any other character in this show, who would it be?
Wench #1

When you have a five-minute break during rehearsal, what do you spend that time doing?
I try to do my homework, but in reality I spend like 10 minutes shifting around trying to find a comfy position to start my homework in. So by the end of the “break” I’m just laying somewhere with nothing done. Also trying to get in the vlog squad, I don’t think I’m funny enough though.

If you had a magic wand, what show would you do next?
Mequon ! Wondering what really happens here everyday? Do we all put on cult robes at night and meet at Outpost? Are there nalgene stickers within our nalgene stickers? Do we really refer to ourselves as “the quon” ? Come to Homestead’s Production of Mequon ! to find out the truth. Aha I guess I’ll save the satire for EMCEE skits though.

What’s your perfect Sunday afternoon look like?
I’m very introverted so my perfect sunday afternoon would be staying at home listening to music for a while, finding a really good book to read, then maybe talking with a friend for a bit. Also if I could find a really good movie to watch with my family that’d be great.
