Meet the Artist: Weston Eichmeier

This is what happens when you ask pit kids to do a Meet the Artist… you get silly.

Who are you?  What year are you?  What are your interests?
My name is Weston Eichmeier. I am in second grade. I do drums. I like listening to drums. I am drums.

What exactly do you do for Oklahoma!?
Big stick, big thud.

Why did you join Oklahoma!?
yee haw.

Tell us a story from rehearsal, pit practice, or crew session.
One time Mr. O didn’t listen to anything I was saying because he remembered talking to my sister earlier.

What is Oklahoma! about? Why should people come to see it?

  1. Yee haw.
  2. I hit the big drum.
  3. Oklahoma! marked the beginning of the Golden Age of musicals. In addition, it provided the basis for the classic Broadway musical. Moreover, it features a beautiful score produced by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Furthermore, Oklahoma! portrays life on the American frontier during its expansion. Fourthly, Oklahoma, the state (not the musical) is the 20th largest state in the United States of America.

What do you hope the audience will think about in the car as they drive home after this show?
Grover Cleveland.

Anything else you want to talk about?
Well, thank you for asking, I truly appreciate your interest in my interests. Grover Cleveland was elected to the U.S. presidency on two separate occasions as a member of the Democratic party. One could call his career as president of the United States of America, a “Grover Cleveland sandwich.” Benjamin Harrison, a Republican, was the president during Grover Cleveland’s term. It is important to note that Grover Cleveland’s non-consecutive terms were drastically different, with one of his major blunders occurring in his second term; Cleveland’s strong beliefs regarding laissez-faire economics and the gold standard led to over-speculation, resulting in the Panic of 1893.

Come listen to Weston play percussion and drum kit for Oklahoma! Feb 1-4
